UB Community Embraces COVID-19 Vaccines as more than 1000 take the Jab

VaccineUniversity of Botswana community is among Batswana who have embraced COVID-19 vaccines. As of July 30, 2021, at total of 1074 people had received Sinovac and Pfizer vaccine doses at the UB Clinic. Of the number that took the jab, 720 were staff members while 350 were students.

The vaccination exercise followed Gaborone District Health Management Team (DHMT) approval of UB Clinic as a vaccination site against COVID-19, kicking starting the first phase with 32 people taking their first jab on May 10, 2021.

Staff members aged 55 and above were invited for vaccination alongside health care workers affiliated to UB. Gaborone DHMT further authorised that students having rotations in clinical settings should be included in the vaccination exercise as health care workers. Consequently, the Faculty of Medicine and that of Health Sciences submitted names and students continue to be schedule for vaccination.

So far medical, pharmacy and nursing students have been vaccinated at the clinic. Besides administering vaccinations to UB Community, the clinic also supported Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital to vaccinate some of its staff. Meanwhile, Phase 2 of the vaccination exercise commenced last month as per the Ministry of Health and Wellness schedule.
