UB Boxing Club Starts 2025/2026 Boxing Season on a High Note, Underscores Growing Reputation

BoxingUniversity of Botswana (UB) Boxing Club delivered a stellar performance at the second Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) Interclub Tournament of the year held at Botho University on the 12th of April 2025. The event marked the official start of the 2025/2026 BoBA calendar and attracted 55 boxers from 14 clubs across the country.

UB fielded six athletes into the ring and five (5) emerged victorious impressive performance that underscores the club's growing reputation in the local boxing scene. Among the highlights was 54kg standout Katlego Keorapetse, reigning Best of Best Champion and Best Boxer of 2025, who edged out Katlo Kgowe of Prisons Boxing Club in a thrilling bout decided by a 3–2 split decision. At 57kg, Kaone Gaobotlhoko overpowered Wabarena Innocent of Diamond Boxing Club. Gaobotlhoko's heavy punches forced the referee to stop the contest in the second round due to injury (RSC-I).

UB’s 60kg boxer, Letlhogonolo Makgolela, dominated his match against Eto Dibetso of Prisons Boxing Club. Makgolela controlled the fight until Dibetso was disqualified late in the third round for non-compliance with protective equipment rules. Making their debuts for UB were Michael Moyo (67kg) and Raymond Modise (48kg). Moyo secured a win after Mmoloki Phokompe of EMG Boxing Club abandoned the match in the first round. Meanwhile, Modise fought valiantly but lost on points to Lawrence Bathobakae of Prisons Boxing Club. The “bout of the day” featured UB’s Karabo Motshwarakgole against Mogomotsi Taolo of EMG Boxing Club at 67kg. Motshwarakgole unleashed a flurry of powerful punches and combinations, ultimately winning by technical knockout (KO) in the second round.

UB Boxing Club’s technical team praised the athletes’ performance, viewing it as a strong reflection of their hard work and commitment to training. The tournament also served as key preparation for the upcoming 2nd UB Open Boxing Tournament, scheduled for 04th – 06th July 2025. Now in its second edition, the UB Open Boxing Tournament will focus on empowerment and raising awareness against Gender-Based Violence. The club is currently seeking sponsorships and partnerships to support this important initiative.
