Over 39 players took part in the 2025 UB Badminton Open held at the UB High-Performance Centre from the 29th to the 30th of March 2025. The tournament featured thrilling competition across various categories including Men’s & Women’s Singles, Men’s & Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Under-19 and Masters.
Winners walked away with cash prizes and medals: Gold medalists received P1000, Silver medalists took home P700 while Bronze medalists claimed P300.
Men’s Singles (Senior/Elite)
A dramatic twist saw Kaone Olatotse withdraw from the final due to medical reasons, handing Tshepo Perekisi the Gold medal and P1000. Olatotse settled for Silver with P700, while Tumelo Moilwa earned Bronze with P300.
Women’s Singles (Senior/Elite)
Reigning champion, Tebogo Nzinge, defended her title, claiming first place and P1000. She battled against Tessa Kabelo who secured Silver and P700. Kesego Hamu finished in third place, earning Bronze and P300.
Women’s Doubles
Tebogo Nzinge and Tessa Kabelo proved unbeatable, securing Gold. Kesego Hamu and Asher Moruti finished in second place with Silver, while Nancy Kahaka and Michelle Kelapepelo rounded out the podium with Bronze.
Men’s Doubles
Tumelo Moilwa and Modiri Motshegwe clinched first place, winning Gold. Batsho Kgakishi and Laone Mogopa finished with Silver while Kaone Olatotse and Kevin Kgosidialwa secured Bronze.
Mixed Doubles
Tumelo Moilwa and Keletso Ntebela took the Gold medal, while Godknows Ketlhabanetswa and Tsholofelo Willie secured Silver. Kaone Olatotse and Pennoua Kahaka finished third with Bronze.
Under-19 Men’s Singles
Tony Li emerged victorious, claiming first place. Zihao Gao took Silver, while Ayush Jagadeegh finished with Bronze.
Masters – Men’s Doubles
The Gold medal went to Sethadharen Attor and Rajeev Chembuth. Anil Mathew and Mukesh Panika Veeti finished as runners-up, securing Silver while Jagdish Lal and Vanith Kumar earned Bronze.
