UB Athletics Club Athletes Deliver Gold Medals for Botswana at Africa Championships

TlhaloUniversity of Botswana Athletics Club athletes have handed Botswana the first two Gold Medals on day two of the ongoing 22nd Africa Senior Championships.

Tlhalosang Tshireletso cleared 7.82m in long jump to earn the championship title while Christine Botlogetswe and Motlatse Ranthe made the team that won another gold in the mixed relay race. A total of five University of Botswana Athletics Club athletes are part of Team Botswana at the 22nd Confederation of African Athletics Africa Senior Championships held in Mauritius. The Championships which kicked off on Wednesday end on Sunday.

The UBAC team is made up of the following athletes:

1. Mr Thalosang Tshireletso (Tripple & Long Jump)

Tshireletso is a former UB student who is now a University of Botswana Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering. Tshireletso did his Bsc General from 2010-2012 before furthering his studies abroad. He just broke the long standing national record in triple jump that has been held for 23 years.

2. Thapelo Monaiwa (Long Jump)

Monaiwa is a former UB student from Department of Logistic & Supply Chain Management, he completed Last year May 2021. Moinawa is also an outstanding 4x100m relay runner. He was also part of the 4x100m relay team that represented Botswana in Poland last year.

3. Motlatsi Rante (4x400m)

Rante is a Bachelor of Education Science student doing her 3rd Year. She became part oMotlaf the ralay team after registering a new Personal Best time of 54:96. Rante has previously represented Botswana at the same competition in Mauritius 2019.

4. Lydia Jele (400m & 4x400m)lydy

Jele an Olympian who is a member of our club, will run a 400m race and she is a member of the women 4x400m relay team.

5. Ms Christina Botlogetswe (400m & 4x400m)

Botlogetswe an Olympian who is a member of club, will run a 400m race and is also a member of the women 4x400m relay team.

Justice Dipeba is the National Team Head coach for Team Botswana.
