UB Appoints Canaan Mathendele Director Information Technology
University of Botswana has appointed Mr Canaan Mathendele Director in the Department of Information Technology. He assumed duty on December 1, 2020.
Before joining the University of Botswana, Mr Mathendele was previously Head, Country Technology Management at Standard Chartered Bank Botswana (SCBB). Prior to that he held the position of Director, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) at the Botswana Examinations Council (BEC).
He has also completed several assignments in the Consulting and Telecommunications sectors. Mr Mathendele holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering degree from University of Miami in Florida, U.S.A.
He is also a holder of a Master in Leadership Development in ICT and the Knowledge Society degree from University of Mauritius as well as a Master of Science in Strategic Management degree from University of Derby.
Mr Mathendele boasts over 17 years in IT practice, during which he acquired several professional competences including being a TOGAF ™ 9 Certified Enterprise Architect; a PRINCE2™ Certified Project Management Practitioner; a Certified Information System Auditor® (CISA); an Information Security Management System (ISO 27001:2013) Provisional Auditor and an ITIL ® v2 Certified Release & Control Practitioner.
Mr Mathendele is a member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) - Gaborone Chapter, and previously served as its IT Governance Director, on a voluntary basis. He is married and has three children. His hobbies are travelling, exploring faith and playing golf.
