University of Botswana and Choppies Enterprise Ltd have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) sealing a partnership aimed at identifying and implementing research projects in sectors of mutual interest. Through the partnership, UB and Choppies want to embark on capacity development and skills enhancement in business related areas.
Welcoming guests, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, Mr Lopang Mosupi, said the UB and Choppies partnership would facilitate research and development in areas of mutual interest.
Acting Vice Chancellor, Mrs Motsei Rapelana, also emphasized that through the partnership, University of Botswana students would gain practical industry experience which was essential for the job Market. Mrs Rapelana explained that with its extensive line of business, Choppies would offer students in the Faculty of Business appropriate exposure especially in logistics.
She expressed delight at Choppies for undertaking to help in financing UB research, a key component as the university was moving towards intensifying research and innovation to contribute to the national ideals.
Mrs Rapelana also thanked Choppies for extending a helping hand to the UB disability programme, saying that most of the students living with disabilities who were in the programme were employed and absorbed into Choppies.
Chief Executive Officer & Executive Director of Choppies Enterprise Ltd, Mr Ramachandran Ottapathu, stated that Choppies was committed to future development of society. He said the University of Botswana housed all the knowledge that was essential to societal development hence their collaboration with UB would help them realise that goal.
Mr. Ottapathu acknowledged the gap academics and industry which he said Choppies intended to close by offering UB students attachments, internships and part-time jobs in a wide range of career opportunities spanning from finance and accounting, banking, e-Commerce, Information Communication Technology to Logistics and Value Chain.
The Choppies CEO remarked that he was hopeful their partnership with UB would bear fruit and add value in society.
UB Coordinator of Commercialisation and Innovation, Mr Rebana Mmereki, said it was the actualization of the MoU that was critical, UB would help train Choppies staff as part of the MoU.
