THIRTY-ONE STUDENTS ON HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP AT CRESTA

Thirty-one third year students from the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management are on a six-month internship at Crest Hotels across the country.

The aim is to imbue them with practical work experience and requisite hospitality industry skills. Speaking at their orientation workshop on February 7, 2020, Head of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Mrs Montle Siya, said the purpose of the orientation was to prepare the students for work.

Mrs Siya advised the students to exercise high professionalism at work and to be good ambassadors of both Cresta and the University of Botswana. She urged the students to maintain the legacy that previous students left as well as a good reputation. Mrs Siya encouraged the students keep customer service above level and to familiarise themselves with the environment they would be exposed to.

In addition, the students were advised to maintain self-control and discipline at work.  Other professional work traits Mrs Siya shared with students include problem solving skills, integrity, strong work ethics and good communications skills.

Meanwhile, Area Human Resource Manager at Cresta, Ms Kagiso Metseyabeng, also encouraged the students to be energetic and willing to learn in the workplace. She further advised them to utilise the opportunity to market themselves and show strong character.
