Senior Finance Leaders Sharpen Skills to Drive Public Sector Excellence

FinanceUniversity of Botswana (UB) Department of Accounting and Finance launched a two-week workshop on the 5th June 2025 at Oasis Motel to enhance financial management expertise for senior public sector finance managers to promote efficiency, accountable, equitable and sustainable management of public finances.

The annual African Association of Accountants General (AAAG) training was organised by UB in collaboration with the Accountants Generals Office. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Mr Godfrey Themba, said training could help senior officers develop strong communication and collaboration skills, enabling work effectively with other government agencies and stakeholders.

Meanwhile, Accountant General, Mr Kealeboga Molelowatladi advised the participants to collaborate to ensure that financial resources were used effectively. He said training would help participants build a stronger overall financial management capacity within the government to enable better decision making, promote transparency, accountability and strengthen the overall financial management capacity of the government.

 Mr Molelowatladi further highlighted that leaders in today’s public sector’s environment, senior managers faced unprecedented challenges and some risks including ongoing changes in the size, complexity, composition as well as procedures and technologies used. He observed that to maintain a sound reputation, the public sector institution must not only be result oriented and effective but it must also meet the public’s expectations for integrity and good governance.
