University of Botswana (UB), Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Enterprises, Professor Doreen Ramogola-Masire, has said collaboration between institutions of high learning, government and private sector was vital in fostering entrepreneurial ecosystem to enhance research and innovation.
Professor Ramogola-Masire made the remarks during a Global Entrepreneurship Week 2024 Botswana visit at Faculty of Engineering and Technology on the 21st of November 2024. She further emphasised UB's commitment to fostering partnerships with industry to drive the commercialisation of research and innovation in order to contribute to sustainable growth.
Professor Ramogola-Masire said UB was now in the process of implementing the strategy notwithstanding that it was faced with challenges of related skilled personnel. She added that UB was also in the process of completing the last stage of implementing research and innovation entrepreneurship ecosystem framework policy. She underscored the importance of key policies, including those on research and innovation, frameworks for institutions driving innovation and research and policies targeting research-focused areas.
In addition, she noted that UB was working in collaboration with various stakeholders and experts to implement policies. Both industry and institutions of high learning, said Professor Ramogola-Masire, should commit to providing funding to foster research and innovation.
