Prime Minister Dlamini of Eswatini Pays his Alma Mater Surprise Visit

DlaminiThe Prime Minister of ESwatini, Mr Cleopas Sipho Dlamini, on July 14, 2023 paid a surprise visit to his alma mater, the University of Botswana.

Mr Dlamini who was appointed ESwatini Prime Minister by King Mswati III in 2021, is the alumnus of the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland, the predecessor to the universities of the respective countries, presently National University of Lesotho, University of Botswana and University of Eswatini.

He was in Botswana attending the US-Africa Business Summit held in Gaborone on July 11-14, 2023. Dlamini was previously Eswatini’s Chief Executive of the Public Service Pension Fund. 

About his impromptu visit to the University of Botswana, Mr Dlamini said he was excited to be back at his alma mater after he completed his studies more than 40 years ago. He added that he was looking forward to working with the university and promised to arrange a proper official visit soon.

To that end, the University of Botswana prides itself as the only university with three of its alumni simultaneously serving as heads of state and government. The other two are President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi and Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane.
