President of Liberia University, Dr Layli Maparya, paid University of Botswana (UB) Vice chancellor, Professor David Norris, courtesy visit on the 3rd of December 2025 to strengthen existing relations and explore new partnership on areas of tourism, health sciences training and benchmarking on supply chain management curriculum development.
Speaking at the occasion, Professor Norris noted that UB, as a comprehensive institution, was currently undertaking a restructuring exercise to strengthen its new strategic focus on intensifying research and fostering innovation. He added that the University aimed to engage across the entire research and innovation value chain to enhance financial sustainability and reduce reliance on government funding.
He further explained that UB plays a pivotal role in helping transform the Botswana’s economy from a resource-based model to a knowledge-driven one anchored on research and innovation. He added that the University continued to perform strongly in international research rankings, reflecting its growing impact and competitiveness.
Meanwhile, the President of Liberia University, Dr Maparya expressed gratitude for the strong partnership the two institutions had enjoyed over the years in training Liberian graduate students in statistics. She further emphasised the intention to expand collaboration with the University
