Newly Elected SRC Urged to Serve Students as Positive Role Models

Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Mrs Motsei Rapelana, has urged the newly elected Student Representative Council (SRC) to act as positive role models to fellow students during tenure of office.

Speaking at the SRC’s inauguration ceremony at the Student Centre Foyer on July 7, 2020, Mrs Rapelana advised the new leadership to work together with management for the university to realise its mandate. She also urged them to observe university regulations and policies when addressing academic and student welfare matters. In addition, Mrs Rapelana appealed to the SRC to attend faculty boards and senate meetings to ensure representation of their voice.

She reiterated her call to the SRC to be part of management in the fight against COVID-19. “Observe social distancing, wear masks and avoid congregating in large numbers with your colleagues,” said Mrs Rapelana.

Acting Director Student Welfare, Ms Dimakatso Gofhamodimo, also shared the same sentiments and encouraged the SRC to work as a team and be the voice of students. Ms Gofhamodimo also appealed to the students to uphold university principles and regulations. She impressed upon them to be exemplary to other students and to seek advice and guidance from their predecessors.

Meanwhile, incoming SRC President, Mr Bokang Dumelang, pledged to join hands with management to promote research, student activities and accountability. Mr Dumelang assured management to seek partnerships with the private sector to promote student businesses, job creation and attachments.
