New SRC called on to walk the talk

The newly elected University of Botswana Student Representative Council (SRC) has been called upon to walk the talk on promises they made to students during campaigns.

Director for Students Welfare, Ms Barbra Pansiri, made the call at the handing over ceremony and inauguration of the 2019/2020 SRC at the Student Centre Foyer on April 25, 2019.

Ms Barbra Pansiri also called on the new Council to serve students’ interests in line with the vision and mission of the University. She further advised the new SRC that in embracing the vision and mission they should be guided by, among others, the University’s strategic objectives.

The director impressed upon them to familiarise themselves with regulations so that they could lead by example.

Ms Pansiri also urged the students to join hands with the University management to produce marketable students with the right skills and to ensure teaching and learning took place as expected.

Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Students Affairs, Professor Happy Siphambe, cautioned the new SRC against irresponsible leadership and social media posts. He also advised them to engage students and university management amicably and promote dialogue whenever there were student unrests.

The new SRC comprises the President Amogelang Mokwena, Vice President, Tumelo Legase, Secretary General, Gomolemo Motsamai, Administrative Secretary, Boipelo Gaesi, Treasurer Theo Ngubo, Minister of Academic Affairs, Bokang Dumelang and Minister of Student Affairs, Given Khunong.

Others are Minister of Justice, Carter Joseph, Minister of Refectory, Masego Mogapaesi, Minister of Entertainment, Mohammed Sheikh, Minister of Sports, Kesaobaka Mesti, Minister of Information and Publicity, Merapelo Gaonyadiwe, Minister of Bar and Canteen, Thato Mothagodi and Add Member International Affairs Karabo Matonkomane.
