In preparation for the 2025/2026 Botswana Premier League season, Mochudi Centre Chiefs Football Club underwent a series of advanced pre-season fitness and performance assessments at the University of Botswana High Performance Centre (UBHPC) on 7th July 2025.
Hosted at the UB Campus Indoor Sports Centre, the assessments form part of the club’s rigorous conditioning programme, designed to optimise physical readiness of its players ahead of a demanding football campaign. The testing process encompassed a comprehensive range of scientific evaluations, including strength, speed, agility, endurance, and body composition analysis. These diagnostics are intended to provide a holistic picture of each player’s athletic condition.
The data collected will equip coaching and medical staff with vital information to tailor make training programmes. This scientific approach not only identifies strengths but also pinpoints performance gaps, ensuring each player reaches peak form while reducing the risk of injury. Established as a leading sports science and training facility in the country, the UB High Performance Centre continues to play a pivotal role in supporting elite athletes and clubs through evidence-based performance strategies.
“This kind of testing is crucial, especially at the elite level,” noted a Dr Comfort Mokgothu, Director Culture, Sports and Recreation. “It helps bridge the gap between talent and performance by allowing coaches to make informed decisions based on real-time data, he observed.”
The collaboration underscores the growing relationship between academic institutions and professional sports in Botswana, highlighting UB’s commitment to advancing sport science and athletic development nationally.
