Meet University of Botswana’s 2024 Valedictorian: The Trailblazing Genius Chedza Julius

ChedzaChedza Julius is the second and youngest child of Miss Esnath Julius of Tsamaya village in the North-East District of Botswana. Her single-parent mother raised her in a household deeply rooted in the values of self-respect, strength, and discipline. These values shaped her character and became her guiding light throughout her academic journey. Chedza Julius began her primary education at Newton Primary School in Gaborone before transferring to Legae Primary School.

At primary school, she was an active student who participated in extracurricular activities such as marimba, swimming, and dance. These early years formed a solid base for self-discovery, general exploration of interests, and character-building. From Legae Primary, Chedza proceeded to Legae Academy for her secondary education, where she committed herself fully to her studies, aiming to improve and excel academically.

She engaged in various sporting activities, such as tennis, discus, and javelin. There she combined with a solid focus in her academic pursuits. She concentrated on her studies and formed a supportive network of like-minded, high-achieving peers. Together, they pushed each other towards success, and their efforts culminated in her winning the best Form 3 student in the Legae Academy Award in recognition of her outstanding academic performance. Chedza continued this path of success, completing her IGCSE exams with distinction and being a Top Achiever.

Afterwards, she enrolled to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences at the University of Botswana, initially taking a double major in Economics and Sociology. Chedza later developed a deep passion for Statistics and decided to read for a single major in Statistics. Despite her rigorous academic schedule, Chedza found time to give back to her community, volunteering occasionally with the Rotaract Botswana Club and assisting as an usher during the University of Botswana’s graduation ceremonies. Throughout Chedza’s university education, she maintained great focus and the best grades. By the end of her first year, she had an impressive CGPA of 4.8. Today, she completed her degree with an outstanding and rare CGPA of 4.9. Chedza Julius’ exceptional performance is a testament to her determination and perseverance. She is a true embodiment of the finest qualities that any parent and university can instil. Ladies and Gentlemen, Chedza Julius!
