The University of Botswana (UB) Marathon, held on the 13th of October 2024, at the UB Stadium under the theme “Run for a Purpose,” attracted a diverse group of participants, including clubs, corporates, young and senior runners, both national and international. Runners took to the streets of Gaborone to make a difference by contributing towards the creation of postgraduate scholarships.
In the Men’s 42Km race, Lyno Muchena claimed first place, winning the grand prize of P21 000. Second and third place were taken by Aymos Kemboi and Glady Kiptoo, who won P12 000 and P7000, respectively. Modisagape Dikgakgamatso, representing BDF, topped the Local Athlete category, winning P10 000 and securing fourth place overall.
In the Women’s 42Km race, Rholex Kogo secured first place and P21 000, followed by Boikhutso Bakha, who won P12 000 and Abigael Jerope, who took third with P7000. Bakha also topped the Local Athlete category, earning an additional P10 000.
The 21Km races saw fierce competition. Lopang Oontse came in first for the men, taking P10 000, while Kitsiso Joseph won the women’s race with the same prize. Juniors and students also competed across various distances, with numerous athletes earning their place on the podium in this inspiring event.
Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Teaching and Learning, Professor Richard Tabulawa, applauded the participants and expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their continued support in making the 2024 UB Marathon a success.
