The University of Botswana (UB) on the 7th of October 2026 welcomed His Royal Highness Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, who paid a courtesy visit to Botswana’s first public university.
During his visit, the Duke toured the University’s UniPod where he viewed innovative projects and initiatives developed by young people. The tour provided an opportunity to showcase UB’s efforts to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and the application of technology to address societal challenges.
The Duke also toured the UB SOLTRAIN Project which focuses on advancing the use of solar energy and promoting sustainable energy solutions. The tours highlighted the University’s contribution to research, innovation and sustainable development, in line with Botswana’s national development priorities.
UB management expressed appreciation for the Duke’s visit, describing it as a rare honour for the University and an opportunity to showcase some of its work in innovation and sustainable energy.
The visit also reflected the longstanding cordial relations between Botswana and the United Kingdom, underscoring the continued importance of cooperation and engagement between the two countries.
