The Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation under the Student Life and Experience Department recently hosted the fourth edition of the UB Open Badminton Championships at the UB Campus Indoor Sports Centre.

The two-day tournament brought together junior and senior badminton players from across Botswana, competing in men's and women's singles, doubles and mixed doubles. The inclusion of the Under-19 category provided a valuable platform for young athletes to gain competitive experience and showcase their talent alongside senior players.

In the Under-19 category, Lingyao Bi won the women's singles, while Samarth Patel claimed the men's singles title. Tony Chen Ai Li and Zixuan Wang won the mixed doubles with Chen Ai Li and Ayush Jagadeesh taking the men's doubles title. The women's doubles crown went to Lingyao Bi and Zixuan Wang.

In the senior category, Tessa Kabelo emerged victorious in the women's singles while Tshimologo Kopore won the men's singles. Tebogo Ndzinge and Tessa Kabelo claimed the women's doubles title with Godknows Ketlhabanetswe and Tumelo Moilwa winning the men's doubles. Moilwa and Keletso Peo Ntebela took the mixed doubles honours.

Closing the championships, Botswana Badminton President Modisaotsile Badubi commended the players for their discipline, sportsmanship and competitive spirit. He thanked UB for hosting the tournament and supporting the development of badminton, noting that the championships provide an important platform for athletes to develop their skills and gain valuable competitive experience.
