From Classroom to Kitchen: UB Students Serve Up Creativity at Culinary Arts Showcase

CulinaryUniversity of Botswana (UB) Department of Family and Consumer Science students recently celebrated culinary talent by showcasing creativity, innovation and applied expertise during a Culinary Arts Skills Showcase at Block 247 on the 6th of November 2025.

The objective of the event was to exhibit culinary skills and services of students, sharpen student’s entrepreneurial skills and prepare for enterprising, exposing students to culinary industry experts to forge partnerships in the development and implementation of enterprise in the culinary area.

The event brought together students, faculty and industry professionals for a dynamic display of culinary artistry where participants transformed classroom learning into impressive culinary creations. Tasting menu comprised the following: Hors do ‘oeuvres, Soup Course, Salad course, Entrée, Palate Cleanser, Dessert and Beverage.

Speaking at the ceremony, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Teaching and Learning, Professor Maria Nnyepi, said the culinary showcase was a reflection of UB’s commitment towards producing skilled, creative and market ready graduates to contribute to the knowledge-based economy. She said it was critical for the University to strengthen partnerships with government, industry and entrepreneurs to grow research, innovation and employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education, Professor Kenneth Dipholo, said the showcase provided a platform for students to translate theory into practice, blending science, art and culture to create innovative culinary experiences. He said the showcase exemplified how education in the food and hospitality disciplines could drive entrepreneurship, sustainability and national development.
