CIUB Host 2026 ‘Chinese Bridge’ Chinese Show for Botswana Primary School Students

CIUBThe University of Botswana (UB), in collaboration with the Confucius Institute at the University of Botswana (CIUB), hosted the 2026 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Show for Botswana Primary School Students at the University Theatre Hall, Block 253, bringing together learners from across the country to demonstrate their Chinese language proficiency, cultural knowledge and artistic expression.

The event, aimed at promoting cultural exchange and strengthening educational ties between Botswana and China, featured speeches from key stakeholders who underscored the importance of language learning and global understanding.

In her welcome remarks, Ms Tao Lili, Minister-Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Botswana, praised the enthusiasm of young learners embracing the Chinese language. She commended the efforts of teachers and parents, noting that cultural and educational exchanges continue to deepen friendship between Botswana and China. She encouraged learners to remain curious, embrace new cultures and use language as a bridge for international understanding.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the University, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Teaching and Learning, Professor Maria Nnyepi, highlighted the importance of cultural exchange programmes in broadening students’ perspectives and fostering global citizenship. She reaffirmed UB’s commitment to initiatives that promoted academic excellence and international collaboration.

Chief Executive Officer from the Department of Basic Education under the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic NnyepiEducation, Ms Lesego Masitara, also commended the initiative, noting that such platforms nurtured language acquisition and cultural appreciation among young learners. She encouraged pupils to continue pursuing opportunities that build skills and prepare them for a multilingual world.

The highlight of the event was the Chinese Speech Competition and Talent Performance segment where learners impressed audiences with speeches, songs, poetry recitations and cultural displays. Participants demonstrated confidence, creativity and growing mastery of the Chinese language.

After a competitive showcase, Xinsuo Danieele Kabo Wang emerged as the overall best performer, recognised for outstanding language proficiency and stage presence.

In his vote of thanks, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, Professor Thapelo Otlogetswe, expressed appreciation to the Chinese Embassy, CIUB, participating schools, teachers, parents and learners. He encouraged continued commitment to language learning and cultural exchange as pathways to personal growth and global understanding.
