Championship Preparations on Track as Six UB Boxing Club Athletes Secure Victories

BoxingThe University of Botswana (UB) Boxing Club delivered a stellar performance at the Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) Interclub tournament hosted by EMG Boxing Club on 14th of September 2024 at EMG Camp in Selebi Phikwe. The event, which attracted 12 clubs and featuring 27 bouts, saw six UB boxers claim remarkable victories, showcasing the team’s growing prowess in the sport.

Among the standout performers was Mompoloki Sebula (54 kg), who edged out Sekgole of EMG Boxing Club in a close 2-1 decision. Katlego Keorapetse (51 kg) delivered a dominant performance, defeating Segogwane from Moshupa Boxing Club 3-0. Keaoleboga Mokokwe (52 kg) also impressed, securing a 2-1 victory over Sechi of Police Boxing Club.

The hard-hitting Karabo Motshwarakgole (63.5 kg) was too powerful for his opponent, Thipe of SSKB Boxing Club, with the referee Stopping the Contest (RSC) to protect Thipe from further damage. Letlhogonolo Makgolela (60 kg) controlled all rounds in his bout against Rudisang of SSKB, winning 3-0. Meanwhile, Tshephang Nkagisang (51 kg) won by walkover as he had no opponent.

However, not all UB boxers found success in the ring. Gaobotlhoko (57 kg) was defeated by George Molwantwa of Police Boxing Club in a 3-0 decision while Baroma (54 kg) lost to Sechi in a narrow 2-1 contest. Chepete (51 kg) faced a tough challenge against Molatlhegi of DTCB Boxing Club, ultimately losing 2-1.

Overall, nine (9) UB athletes competed in the tournament with six securing wins and three falling short. With momentum on their side and a renewed sense of confidence, UB Boxing Club is eager to continue their winning streak as they prepare for the national championships later this year.

Despite the losses, UB Boxing Club views the team's performance as a positive sign ahead of two crucial national events: the BOTESSA National Championship on 2nd – 3rd November 2024 and the BoBA National Championships on the 26th -27th of November 2024.
