TrainingThe University of Botswana (UB) continues to reinforce its commitment to human capital development through the delivery of industry-relevant professional training programmes organised by the Centre for Learning and Teaching Innovation aimed at strengthening workforce capabilities and supporting national development priorities.

The Department hosted two (2) significant training courses from the 25th – 29th of May 2026, namely, Introductory eLearning Course for the Digital Learning Platform Technical Working Team and the Radiation Safety Training Course. Both programmes reflect the institution’s dedication to equipping professionals with the technical knowledge, practical skills and leadership abilities needed to succeed in an increasingly dynamic and technology-driven environment.

The Introductory eLearning Course brought together Informatics Officers, IT Officers and Programme Officers who form part of the Technical Working Team from organisations such as the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Communication and Innovation and BUMMHI that are responsible for designing, implementing and sustaining digital learning initiatives within their organisations and beyond. Participants were welcomed with a message emphasising the growing importance of digital education in a rapidly evolving technological environment.

At the same time, UB hosted participants from Bank of Botswana for a Radiation Safety Training Course aimed at professionals working with radioactive materials and radiation-generating equipment. The programme provided both theoretical and practical knowledge required to ensure radiation safety and compliance with national and international standards.

Welcoming the participants, the Centre for Learning and Teaching Innovation Director, Professor Olekae Thakadu, emphasised that education and training were not only about gaining knowledge but also about empowering professionals with the confidence and capabilities required to address evolving workplace challenges. The Centre reaffirmed its role as a strategic bridge between the academic world and work industry, facilitating knowledge transfer, workforce development and a culture of lifelong learning.

Both trainings are aligned with Botswana’s Vision 2036 and the National Transformation Agenda, which advocate for a high-Thakaduperforming, efficient and knowledge-driven economy. By investing in continuous professional development, the University of Botswana aims to strengthen organisational performance, enhance service delivery and contribute meaningfully to national growth and sustainability.

UB expresses confidence that participants would use the knowledge and skills gained from the programmes to drive innovation, improve workplace efficiency and support transformative development within their respective sectors.
