Botswana Ash (BOTASH) acting Managing Director, Mr Otusitse Seokamo, has lauded the SOLTRAIN project for contributing to manpower development in Botswana. He said this during the opening ceremony of the Supplier Development Training Workshop for Experts & Professionals held in Sowa. The workshop was jointly organised by the Clean Energy Research Centre (CERC), University of Botswana (UB) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Botswana Supply Development Programme (SDP). Speaking at the event, Acting Head of Projects, Mr T. S. Malasa, welcomed the UB-UNDP team to Botash and assured them of Botash support.
UNDP SDP Programme Manager, Ms Boitumelo Mbaakanyi, emphasised that the capacity building initiative was a product of the partnership between UNDP SDP and SOLTRAIN. She remarked that Botash was the first beneficiary and a critical stakeholder towards advancing the development of small and medium enterprises in Botswana.
SOLTRAIN project leader, Professor Kevin Nwaigwe, lauded BOTASH for seizing the opportunity to develop manpower and empower citizen entrepreneurs. He noted that the SOLTRAIN project was well-positioned to continue playing a critical role in developing the much-needed human capacity in the renewable energy sector. Professor Nwaigwe encouraged participants to pay attention and benefit from the various topics for the workshop. The training providers included Mr Kago Rabasoma and Dr Kobamelo Mashaba.
The course attracted 30 participants including staff of BOTASH and Local Stakeholders who are experts, professionals and entrepreneurs. Participants were trained to be able to design, build and install solar thermal systems after the training series. Solar heat for industrial processes was also promoted including the SOLTRAIN demonstration project scheme. The workshop concluded with an assessment, after which certificates were awarded to participants who successfully passed.
During the closing dinner to mark the end of the workshop, Mr M. Moora, BOTASH Maintenance Manager, thanked the SOLTRAIN team for a very impactful workshop, presented a token of appreciation to the team and issued certificates to workshop participants
