Basketball Action Tips Off at UB Campus Indoor Sports Centre During CUCSA Games

Team BotsThe University of Botswana (UB) campus suddenly sprang into action this week as thousands of student-athletes, officials and supporters converged for the 2026 Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association (CUCSA) Games, transforming the University's sporting facilities into a hive of regional competition.

Among the sporting codes on display, basketball tipped off at the UB Campus Indoor Sports Centre on the 30th of June where Team Botswana's men's side took on regional powerhouses Zimbabwe and South Africa in the group stages.

Despite spirited performances, Botswana narrowly lost its opening match 63-55 to Zimbabwe before going down 72-55 to South Africa. Although the results brought the team's group-stage campaign to an end, the players demonstrated resilience, teamwork and determination against some of Southern Africa's strongest university basketball teams.

The basketball matches attracted enthusiastic spectators and showcased the quality of competition that has characterised this year's CUCSA Games. The tournament has also highlighted the University's capacity to host major regional sporting events through its modern sporting infrastructure including the UB Campus Indoor Sports Centre.

Beyond hosting the Games, the University continues to make a significant contribution to Team Botswana with UB students forming a substantial proportion of the national university contingent across various sporting codes. Their participation reflects the University's commitment to developing well-rounded graduates who excel both academically and in sport.

Teams BotsThe CUCSA Games have also provided an opportunity for the University to demonstrate the capabilities of its world-class sporting facilities which continue to position UB as a preferred destination for national and international sporting events.

As the competition continues towards the final day on the 5th of July, UB remains at the centre of the region's premier university sporting showcase, reaffirming its role not only as a host institution but also as a key contributor to Botswana's sporting excellence and regional engagement.
