40 UB Students Trained as Peer Educators to Promote Mental Health Awareness

Mental Health Training Group PictureIn a continued effort to address mental health concerns on campus, 40 University of Botswana (UB) students were trained as peer educators from the 16th to 20th September 2024 at Block 252. The purpose of the training, spearheaded by the UB Department of Health Services, was to bolster the ongoing mental health awareness campaign across the University.

In addition, the primary goal of the initiative was to equip students with essential communication skills, enhance their understanding of campus counselling services for effective referrals as well as provide them with educational tools to promote overall health and well-being among their peers.

By empowering students to become advocates, the University hopes to create a supportive environment where mental health issues are openly discussed and addressed. The peer educators are expected to serve as a bridge between the student body and mental health services.
