Environmental Health is the field of science that studies how the environment influences human health and disease. The University of Botswana environmental health program is designed to provide a sound scientific base while allowing flexibility in the choice of advanced courses to develop individuals to be in a position to deal with complex environmental problems. Currently the department offers only the BSc. Environmental Health four year degree program.

The department has high quality staff who are involved in both research and teaching. DEH has state of the art laboratories which include, toxicology, food hygiene occupational hygiene and audiometric booths. These laboratories are used for teaching and research purposes and are also intended to help the department provide environmental and occupational assistance and services to government and industry, and also consultancy type services (e.g. technical analyses, laboratory analyses, environmental and workplace surveys). 

Career opportunities

Once you complete your degree you can work in several organizations such as government ministries, the private sector and non-governmental organizations. You can work as a toxicologist,occupational hygienist, pollution control specialist, drinking water specialist, solid and hazardous waste specialist, food safety and hygiene specialist, health educationist, epidemiologist, emergency management specialist or an environmental health academic among other career options.
