The Reasonable Radical: A Celebration of the Life of Gobe Matenge

The Botswana Society in partnership with the University of Botswana will host an evening to celebrate the life of the late Mr Gobe Matenge, the Society’s chairman for many years and former member of the UB Foundation board.

Guest Speaker: Richard (Dick) Werbner, Professor Emeritus in African Anthropology in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Manchester.

Background: Since 1971, Prof Werbner has conducted research in Botswana specializing in the Kalanga-speaking areas of Zimbabwe and Botswana, including ritual, personal and historical narrative, politics, law, and regional analysis. He is the author of many books and numerous articles.

This well-known American anthropologist is also the author of The Reasonable Radicals and Citizens of Botswana, which highlights the life of Mr Gobe Matenge, Botswana’s legendar
