The Department of Law in collaboration with the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, will host the 28th African Human Rights Moot Court Competition from the 1st July till the 6th July 2019. The competition brings together students from law faculties from the African continent to argue a hypothetical case on human rights as if they were before the African Court. In 2019, the theme of the competition will be on refugees, statelessness, sexual minority rights and freedom of expression.
The opening ceremony of the competition will be hosted on the 1st July 2019 at 1600HRS at the University of Botswana Indoor Sports Centre. On the 5th July 2019, the Competition will break into a one-day conference to give the platform to academics to deliberate on issues pertaining to forced displacement and statelessness in Africa, and in particular to challenge academics to answer the question on whether state and other responses to this problem are adequate. The conference will be hosted at the University of Botswana Conference Centre.
