2024 Southern African Universities Debate Championship

The University of Botswana Debate Masters Association will be hosting the 2024 Southern African Universities Debate Championship (SAUDC) at the University of Botswana from the 7th to the 14th of July 2024. This Debate Tournament will see over 300 University Students from the SADC region convene at the University of Botswana for a week long of exciting debating, public speaking and other associated events

SAUDC is an annual event that brings together university students from across Southern Africa in a spirited competition of intellectual prowess and persuasive argumentation. Utilizing the British Parliamentary Debate style, teams from esteemed universities in countries such as South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and others converge to engage in rigorous debates on a wide array of topics spanning human rights, education, social justice, climate change policies, economic reforms, and international relations.

The championship not only serves as a platform for honing critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork skills but also fosters cross-cultural understanding and cooperation among students within the region. This year's tagline, "ko marakanelong" meaning where great minds meet embodies our commitment to creating an inclusive and vibrant intellectual environment where diverse perspectives converge and flourish. It also comes from the fact that Botswana is at the centre of the SADC Region.
