Prof. Eureka B. Mokibelo is an Associate Professor in the Communication and Study Skills Unit at the University of Botswana.  She taught Setswana for 15 years in Senior Secondary Schools of Botswana before joining the University in 2003. Dr Mokibelo taught in the department of Languages and Social Sciences Education from 2003 – 2006 and then joined the Communication and Study Skills Unit in 2007 to date. Her interest in research is in language-in education policy and practice, implementing language-in-education policy in linguistically and culturally diverse settings, language teaching and learning and teacher education.   She focuses on language education policy issues with regards to ethnic minority groups. She currently teaches, researches and consults in language-in-education policy and practice in Botswana. Also, she is the author of textbooks in language teaching and learning in Setswana language as well as literature at both junior and senior secondary schools in Botswana.

Prof Eureka Mokibelo teaches Communication and Study Skills  to first year students at the University of Botswana.  The courses are tailored to different faculties of the university such as Business, Education, Engineering, Humanities, Health Sciences,  Social Sciences and General Education Courses

    Dr Margaret Mokomane is a Medical Microbiologist / Virologist, who has worked for the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) for 23 years, mainly in the field of microbiology. She recently transitioned into academics and joined the Faculty of Health Sciences as Senior Lecturer. She is now leveraging on the experience and skills she garnered over the years,  and using it in the academic environment to work on more research projects that will be beneficial to the country, and at the same time imparting these skills on the students she teaches to produce competent and skilled laboratory scientists. During her time in the MOHW, she built institutional and national capacity in microbiology diagnostics, surveillance and research through training of other lab personnel, engaging in surveillance activities as well as managing disease outbreaks. She has also worked to delineate the molecular microbiology of enteric infections in Botswana and helped establish a national pediatric gastroenteritis surveillance program and the national rotavirus surveillance network in Botswana. In collaboration with both local and international colleagues, she has and continues to participate in research activities in different clinical areas in the country. She is a co-investigator and author of a number of research projects which are published in peer-reviewed journals.

    Over the years, Dr Mokomane collaborated with both local and international colleagues to carry out numerous research projects in various clinical areas in the country, specifically in childhood infectious disease. Her PhD was focussed on Rotavirus gastroenteritis, with emphasis on molecular diagnosis, vaccine effectiveness and the impact of the vaccine on circulating rotavirus genotypes in Botswana. Her research work has resulted in several publications in peer reviewed journals. 

    The PhD student she is currently supervising is working on a project entitled "Determination of the spatio-temporal distribution of human and animal rabies viruses in Botswana"

    George Mokone graduated in 1995 from the University of Botswana with a Bachelor of Science (combined major in Biology and Environmental Sciences), then worked as an Assistant Lecturer at the Institute of Health Sciences, Francistown from November 1995 till Feb 1997. In 1998, George Mokone graduated from the University of Cape Town with a BSc (Med) Hons in Human Physiology. He later graduated with a PhD in Human Physiology (specializing in Exercise Science) from the same university in 2006. He was then employed at the University of Botswana, Department of Nursing Education from August 2007 till July 2008, where his role was to teach human pathophysiology to both undergraduate and graduate students. He moved to Scotland where he worked as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Dundee from 2007 till December 2008. In Dundee, George was involved in teaching medical, dental, BSc students. He returned to the University of Botswana in January 2009 as Lecturer and was part of pioneering group of staff who joined the medical school and played a key role in the Faculty's adoption of the Problem-Based Learning approach which he had learnt in Cape Town and Dundee. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2011. In 2014, George spent 3.5 months at the Johns Hopkins University's Berman Institute of Bioethics as a Fogarty Fellow, where he studied research ethics, among other things. He was appointed HOD in July 2014 and has just completed his second term of office in June 2020

    I am involved in teaching first and second year MBBS students Physiology and Basic Biostastistics. For the past 2 years I have been co-teaching pathophysiology to undergraduate nursing students. I also teach physiology to undergraduate Bachelor of Consumer Sciences students. I am also involved in teaching of the MMed students, particularly assisting with their research proposal writing.   

    Non-communicable diseases, obesity and physical activity among children, prevention of sports injuries

    The Department recently (2020) started a Phil/PhD programme, which is a completely research-based programme. I will be interested to chat to you if you are interested broadly at non-communicable diseases, athlete physical performance, sports injuries and obesity.

    I obtained Master of Nursing (Pediatric Nursing from the University of Technology Sydney, Australia and Qualified as a Paediatric CNS . I am also a Nurse Educator with a Bachelor of Education in Nursing obtained at the University of Botswana as well as Nurse- Midwife obtained from NHI in 1987 and 89

    I been in the nursing profession in both Education and Practice areas for the past 33 years at various health related industry where I progressed from a junior position to senior position while I was in the public sector from 1987. Currently I am a faculty and WHOCC Coordinator at the school of nursing. I am a pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist as well as Nurse Educator with teaching experience of over 25 years locally both public and private Institutions. I have also worked for Tubman University in Liberia appointed as an expert for reorientation of the Nursing curriculum. At the inception of the Medical school through the MEPI project i worked with colleagues on the Maternal child health project with publications of the work in reputable journals. I wrote a grant with colleagues to assist in capacity building for local nurses on Pediatric Oncology. I also had the opportunity to be part of the team that was mainstreaming HIV/AIDS in the Botswana Police College Curriculum as well as the the Adolescent HIV /AIDS package through the Ministry of Health and Wellness. My responsibilities as WHOCC Coordinator  is day to day running of the Centre in line with terms of reference agreed by the School and WHO. The Centre activities are aligned to the mandate of the school and MOHW priority areas. I have been a member of the 6th Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana from 2010 representing Specialist nurses as well as chair of the Clinical practice Committee.

    I teach in the undergraduate program and my focus is on child and adolescent health courses namely Infant and Child Nursing, Adolescent Health and Development as well as foundational courses namely Introduction to Nursing and Practice both theory and Practice  I also teach students in the life laboratory in the pediatric units at the clinical laboratory of the referral hospital for both those with beginning skills development and fourth year completing their rotation in child health units.

    my research interest is in Pediatric oncology particularly the experiences of parents who have children admitted with long term care
