Biography: Nelson Sello (BES)

Dr. Nelson Sello is a lecturer at the University of Botswana in the Department of Sociology. He has a PhD in Public Policy, Agriculture & environment specialization, from University of Arkansas (UoA), United States of America. He holds MA Sociology from UoA. BA Economics & Sociology form University of Botswana (UB). Dr. Sello has extensive experience working in the Ministry of Agriculture, monitoring and evaluating the Ministry of Agriculture policies, programs and projects & conducting surveys related to the agricultural sector. He was part of a team that designed the preliminary M&E system based on the Food Agricultural Organization Assessment work of 2007. Dr. Sello has also conducted evaluations for ALDEP II which resulted in ALDEP 3 and consequently ISPAAD. He is a contact person for the establishment of the BA Development studies at UB and has completed consultations with National Development Studies Association & Ministry of Basic Education. He is a member of Stakeholder Committee for Soc Dept.

My research interest include the social aspects of environmental change and Climate Change. i am particularly interested in the social consequences of environmental change in the lives of the low income communities and their adaptation strategies and significance of public policy esp agenda setting in rectifying these problems. I'm interested in environmental Justice & social inequality & how agenda setting contributes to environmental injustice 

 

 

I am currently a member of the supervision committee for  Mr Nonofo Mokwakwa MPhil/PhD 2019/2020 candidate.The title of his Thesis is Social Cohesion in Botswana and Its Influence on Accountability 

I can supervise candidates in areas of Environmental Sociology; Rural Sociology and socio- economic Development in general and Public Policy
