Dr Nkwae has 27 years of teaching and research experience besides another 2 years at the Department of Surveys and Lands as a land surveyor. In his teaching career, he has worked for 2 years as a lecturer in the former Botswana Polytechnic and about 25 years at the University of Botswana in the Department of Civil Engineering. He has worked in  several local and internationally funded projects which include - Engineering Education Foundation (EiF): Online Support for Extended Learning for the Geomatics Engineering Education (Principal Investigator); UN Habitat - Documenting Land Inventory Processes in Botswana (Principal Investigator); International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) - Managing Land Information for Urban Governance (Principal Investigator); Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada - A  Handbook on Issues Surrounding Linking Science and Local Knowledge in Coastal Areas: Canadian Case Studies (Co-Investigator); SADC Centre for Land-related, Regional and Development Law and Policy (CLRDP) - Operational Framework for Post-settlement Support Interventions (Co-investigator); Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) - Building Capacity in Land Administration in Southern Africa (Co-investigator); Ministry of Lands and Housing (MLH, Botswana) - Improvement of Land Administration Processes, Capacity and Systems (The LAPCAS Project): Member of the Steering Committee.
