MSc Clinical Biochemistry

PhD Medical Science

Professor of Medical Science with 28 years’ experience in clinical laboratory sciences, ten years as a practicing Medical Laboratory Scientist and 18 years as a university academic and researcher. I have provided teaching and academic mentorship to graduate (MPhil and PhD) and undergraduate students and served as an external examiner for undergraduate and graduate programmes in the region. My current research interests include work on ferroportin polymorphism and its role on iron homeostasis and infections. I am investigator on three research projects funded by NIH, Wellcome Trust and CDC-Atlanta. I have considerable experience in collaborating in international, multi-center research projects. My previous and current research experiences include studies on iron metabolism, plasma proteins and HIV/tuberculosis. I have instrumental in setting clinical laboratory science training programmes in a number of English-speaking countries in southern Africa.
