Leago Sebina is a registered architect in Canada and Botswana and has experience in both practice and academia for over 15 years. His interest in practice, research and teaching is in the infusion of appropriate sustainable technologies, indigenous knowledge, local resources and skills in improving living conditions for low-income communities in Botswana. This has been explored through research and in design of various types of projects, especially housing and others as well as in teaching of practical courses such as design studio, building materials and construction and Indigenous African Architecture.

This interest first developed in his professional qualification studies, at Dalhousie University, under the guidance of Prof. Richard Kroeker, in his final year thesis research project titled ‘The Understanding of Place and Tectonics in Botswana’, which was awarded a Nova Scotia Association of Architects Award on ‘An Architect Responsibility to Society’ in 2004. This continued throughout his career leading to a Post Qualification Master of Architecture in Design at the UNSW following awarding of a scholarship by University of Botswana and was appointed a Lecturer in the Department of Architecture and Planning from 2008 until today.

Leago is a firm believer in the symbiotic relationship between academia, research and practice, and advocates for the need to be involved in all facets of the profession as a teacher of a practical discipline like architecture.

The Bachelor of Architecture programme is split into four clusters, which include Design, History & Theory, Technology, Professional Practice & Computation. Leago Sebina is involved in the Design  stream and Technology stream as well as History & Theory. He guides and coordinates Third Year Design Studio Projects. In addition he teaches Building Material and Construction to Second Year students and Traditional African Architecture. Final Year Design Thesis Supervision.
