Dr. Thabo Lucas Seleke is a distinguished Lecturer in the Department of Political and Administrative Studies at the University of Botswana, specializing in Health Policy and Systems Research. His work addresses critical issues such as strengthening of health systems, governance reform, universal health coverage (UHC), national health insurance (NHI), the political economy of non-communicable disease (NCD) integration into primary health care, and corruption in health.
Dr. Seleke holds a PhD in Health Policy and Systems Research from the prestigious London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, an MSc in International Health Policy and Management from Brandeis University as a Fulbright Scholar, and a BA in Social Sciences from the University of Botswana. His doctoral thesis, “The (Un)making of NCD Policy in Botswana: Actor Mobilisation, Inertia, and Fragmentation," critically analyzes policy processes in low- and middle-income countries.
Currently, Dr. Seleke is a Co-Investigator in implementation science research, particularly through his involvement in the Cervical Cancer Screening and Follow-Up Enhancements through Mobile Outreach (CAFEMO) project. Supported by GIZ funding and in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Botswana-Rutgers partners, this project exemplifies his commitment to advancing health outcomes in marginalized populations. Furthermore, his research extends to the intersection of climate change and health.
