Dr. Setlhabi joined the University of Botswana in 2011 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and is currently a Senior Lecturer in Archaeology. She teaches Archaeology (Archaeology Unit, History Department) and Introduction to Social and Cultural Anthropology, Sociology Department. Her industry experience started in 1993 as Collections Manager at the Botswana National Museum until 2004 when she joined I.C.T. companies before joining academia. She is a professional member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM),Anthropology Southern Africa (ASnA) Council Member (2024-2026), African Museums and Heritage Restitution (AFRIMUHERE) (secretary General), Botswana Association of Archaeology Professionals, Association of Critical Heritage Studies,Society of Africanist Archaeologists (SAFA). She was previously the Chair of the Botswana National Committee of ICOM (2013-16) and Board member of the International Committee for Documentation (CIDOC)(2001-2004. Dr. Setlhabi served as a member of the National Task Force on Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (IGC),2020 -2024 culminating in Botswana's hosting of the UNESCO 2003 Intergovernmental Committee (18.COM) for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Kasane, Botswana from 5- 8,December 2023.Furthermore, she is involved in community work where she is a member of the Kgatleng District Intangible Cultural Committee. She was also a Board member of Phuthadikobo Museum, 2008-2023.

I am an interdisciplinary academic and my research interest in the study of material culture and its role in defining and shaping past and present societies. My orientation is therefore inclined to disciplines that are object/culture/heritage and people oriented such as archaeology, anthropology, museum, heritage studies and digital heritage. My other main research interest is the documentation and preservation of Intangible Cultural Heritage and its integration with material culture.
