TEMPORARY FULL-TIME TECHNICIAN, DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

VACANCY NO. FET/ME 7/2021: TEMPORARY FULL-TIME TECHNICIAN, DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING (1 academic year contract)

Duties: The successful candidate will work under a Senior Technician and will be expected to: i) Prepare and set up equipment for laboratory/workshop classes; ii) Operate and demonstrate laboratory equipment; iii) Prepare and store all sample materials; iv) Detect and report faults within the premises; v) Maintain inventory of stocks and record of equipment loans issued from assigned area of responsibility; vi) Carryout regular service and maintenance requirements for all equipment in the area assigned; vii) Keep the equipment and surrounding area clean and tidy at all times; viii) Act as custodian of laboratory/workshop equipment placed under his/her charge including safety; ix) Provide technical assistance in teaching and research activities of the department; x) Undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Technician and/or Head of Department from time to time.

Requirements: A minimum of a 2 year Certificate, or Diploma, in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, OR at least 3 years of service at a level of Assistant Technician with a record of outstanding service, with no formal full-time study. Good practical and communication skills will be added advantages. Preference will be given to citizens
