The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, research, innovation and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from accomplished and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Social Worker in the Department of Student Life and Experience.
The Social Worker provides social work services to students, addressing their psychosocial needs. This role involves conducting individual and group counselling sessions, developing intervention plans, and collaborating with other mental health professionals to ensure comprehensive support.
Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to; (i) Conduct individual and group counselling sessions. (ii) Assess the needs of the student and the student's family. (iii) Design, implement interventions/ programmes and monitor outcomes for identified students’ needs. (v) Provide resources that are helpful to students in their social, psychological and emotional adjustment. (vi) Liaise with internal and external services providers to address psycho-social issues of students. (vii) Advocate for specific psychosocial services to meet the welfare and academic needs of students. (viii) Provide crisis intervention and emergency services to clients with emotional distress. (ix) Maintain accurate and confidential records of counselling sessions and interventions provided.
Qualification Requirements: Applicants should have (i) A Masters’ degree in Social Work, Counselling or related qualifications.
Other Requirements: (i) Strong case intervention skills including individual, group, family, and community counselling. (ii) Excellent communication, interpersonal, and crisis intervention skills.
Work Experience: Not required.
