The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, research, innovation and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from accomplished and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Senior Professional: Marketing and Events Management in the Department of Corporate Affairs.

The Senior Professional Marketing and Events Management is responsible for supporting the development and execution of Marketing and Branding strategies and managing university events. The position holder will create comprehensive marketing plans, oversee event planning and execution, as well as working collaboratively with various departments/stakeholders to promote the university’s image and initiatives.

Duties: the successful candidate will: i. Contribute to the development of and implement departmental, sectional and unit level strategies, policies, plans and procedures; ii. Identify target audiences and develop appropriate messaging to attract new students, sponsors/ donors, alumni members, and other stakeholders; iii. Conduct market research to understand the target audiences’ preferences, perceptions and needs and make recommendations; iv. Develop high-quality marketing materials, including brochures, flyers, newsletters, and digital content; v. Ensure consistency in messaging and adherence to the university’s brand guidelines; vi.  Manage the editorial calendar and coordinate content contributions from various departments; vii. Utilize various media sharing platforms to share marketing content; viii. Assess the efficacy of marketing activities and analyze marketing performance measures and make data-driven adjustments and/ or recommendations; ix. Plan, organize, and coordinate University events, including academic conferences, workshops, cultural events, orientation programmes, alumni reunions, and campus celebrations; x. Plan and lead execution of major University events, including recruitment and enrolment, academic conferences, public lectures, and community outreach programmes; xi. Manage event logistics, including venue setup, catering, and audiovisual requirements; xii. Develop promotional materials and content for event marketing; xiii. Negotiate contracts and ensure timely delivery of services; xiv. Participate in the identification and mitigation of operational risks; xv. Comply with relevant regulations and legislation; xvi.  Respond to customer/ stakeholder queries and inquiries related to area of expertise; xvii. Collaborate with relevant internal and external stakeholders as needed to effectively deliver duties as defined; xviii. Actively engage with the professional community to support and develop expertise in an area of profession; xix. Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor in line with the role.

Minimum Qualification Requirements: i. Applicants are required to have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Sales or other related field is required; ii. A Masters’ degree will be an added advantage; iii. Be registered or eligible to registration as a member of a recognised professional body.

Experience Requirements: A minimum of four (4) years of work experience, three (3) of which should have been at professional/officer level. Higher education experience will be an added advantage.

Other Requirements: i. Ability to develop and implement long-term marketing strategies; ii. Strong ability to plan and execute successful events; iii. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; iv. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines; v. Understanding of digital marketing strategies and tools; vi. Strong leadership skills to guide and inspire the marketing and events team.
