SENIOR PROFESSIONAL: LEARNING DESIGN (1 Post)

The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, innovation and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from accomplished and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Senior Professional: Learning Design in the Centre for Learning and Teaching Innovation (CELTI).

The Senior Professional: Learning Design will be responsible for leading the design & development of innovative and effective learning experiences that align with the University’s goals and objectives. The position holder will leverage on instructional design principles and educational technology to create engaging and impactful learning solutions for diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy and Policy:  The successful candidate will be expected to: i) contribute to the development of and implement departmental, sectional and unit level strategies, policies, plans and procedures ii) stay updated with key trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation.

Course and Program Development: i) Design and develop curricula, instructional materials, assessments and learning activities ii) Collaborate with subject matter experts and faculty to align learning objectives with course content iii) Conduct needs assessments and identify opportunities for course and program improvement iv) Review and enhance existing courses to improve learning outcomes and student engagement v) Coordinate the development and implementation of new courses and programs with key stakeholders.

Technology Integration: I) Identify and evaluate educational technologies and digital tools to enhance learning experience ii) Integrate Technology into Engaging, Interactive Course Designs Iii) Train and Support Faculty and Staff in Effective Technology Use iv) Collaborate with Instructional Designers and Developers to Create Engaging and Interactive Online Learning Modules v) Ensure accessibility and usability of technology‑enhanced learning materials for diverse learner populations.

Collaboration: i) Collaborate with instructional designers, faculty, subject matter experts and cross-functional teams to develop learning solutions aligned with instructional goals ii) Collaborate with multimedia specialists, graphic designers, and developers to create engaging and interactive learning materials iii) Coordinate learning design initiatives and projects while fostering effective team communication and collaboration iv) Foster partnerships with external vendors, educational institutions and industry experts to leverage resources and expertise. v) Participate in cross-functional teams to coordinate learning design initiatives and projects.

Record Keeping and Reporting: i) Maintain accurate records of course and programme development, including timelines, milestones, and deliverables. ii) Prepare reports to track progress, evaluate effectiveness and communicate project outcomes. iii) Ensure compliance with institutional data management and reporting requirements. iv) Conduct regular audits of learning design documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy v) Recommend process improvements based on reporting data and stakeholder feedback.

Risk and Compliance: i) Participate in the identification and mitigation of operational risks ii) Participate in internal and external audits in line with university policies iii) Comply with relevant regulations and legislation.

Customer Service: i) Respond to customer and stakeholder queries within area of expertise ii) Collaborate with relevant units to ensure effective service delivery.

Professional Development i) Engage with the professional community to build and maintain expertise ii) Meet performance targets and prepare for reviews and appraisals iii) Identify learning opportunities and follow up on own training and development in line with departmental needs.

Job Requirements

Qualifications Requirements: i) A Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Multimedia Design, or a related field is required ii) A Masters’ degree in the relevant area is an added advantage.

Minimum Experience: i) A minimum of four (4) years of experience, three (3) of which should have been at the officer level ii) Higher education experience will be an added advantage.

Professional Membership: Certification or membership from relevant professional organizations such as the Association for Talent Development (ATD), International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) or similar associations will be advantageous.

Other Requirements: i) Proficiency in instructional design principles, learning theories, and multimedia development tools. ii) Strong portfolio of successful learning design projects. iii) Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with subject matter experts, stakeholders and team members. iv) Adaptability to new technologies and innovative instructional strategies. v) Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in e-learning and instructional design. vi)Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality learning experiences. vii) Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. viii) Creative problem-solving skills and a passion for designing engaging and effective learning solutions. ix) Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators.
