SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER (CONTRACT POSITION)

VACANCY NO: FSS/ ST 4/2021

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: i) teach undergraduate and graduate level courses especially multivariate statistics, probability theory, statistical Inference and stochastic processes; ii) supervise undergraduate, Masters and PhD student research as need may arise; iii) participate in all academic and professional activities of the department including research; iv) carry out any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements – Senior Lecturer: Candidates should have: i) At least a relevant doctorate in Statistics ii) At least 3 years teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; iii) An excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 pieces of research products published by recognized publishers, 4 of which should be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases. The remaining 2 publications could be journal articles, books chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc. published by recognized publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in referred/accredited journals; iv) Sustained research output: a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years; v) Scholarly presentations at national and and/or international conferences; vi) be lead and/or single author in at least 2 referred journal articles; vii) Publications should be spread nationally and /or internationally and across journals; viii) Some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions, etc. ix) recognized as being of at least national research standing (eg reviewer of for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers); editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; invitation keynote speaker at national/and or international conferences x) Evidence of governance and social engagement activities; xi) Preferred area of specialization is in one of the following: Linear Modelling, Multivariate Analysis, Biometrics and Actuarial Science. The following will be added advantages: i) Sustained research activity; on-going internally supported research; ii) Research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate. iii) Examiner/moderator/assessor for undergraduate and/or graduate projects nationally and iv) Effective and experience in running a program/course, etc.

Requirements - Lecturer: Candidates should have: i) At least a relevant doctorate in Statistics. ii) Show evidence of engagement in research; iii) Show evidence of governance and social engagement; iv) University teaching experience or equivalent will be an added advantage. v) Preferred area of specialization is in one of the following: Linear Modelling, Multivariate Analysis, Biometrics and Actuarial Science.

NB: A relevant Masters’ Degree in Statistics with a Bachelors’ degree in Statistics of at least a 2(i) pass /GPA of at least 3.6 or equivalent may be considered under special circumstances;
