Duties: The successful applicants will be expected to: (i) to lead the development of Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Hons) programmes; (ii) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in physiotherapy/rehabilitation sciences; (iii) conduct research, including the long-range planning and management of individuals and multidisciplinary teams; (iv) initiate and participate in community engagement, (v) take an active part in the supervision and assessment of undergraduate and graduate students’ research projects; (vi) develop and implement mentorship activities for junior staff; (vii) raise research funds from funding agencies within and outside University; (viii) facilitate partnerships internally and externally; (ix) serve in committees within the University and external professional organisations; (x) and carry out any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of School.
Requirements:
The requirements for appointment at each rank are as follows:
Senior Lecturer
Candidates should have: (i) a Doctorate in Physiotherapy or related field; (ii) a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy (specialisation); (iii) Bachelor of Physiotherapy or equivalent; (iv) registered/registrable with Botswana Health Professions Council; (v) demonstrable experience in curriculum development; (vi) at least 3 years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (vii) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 pieces of research products (e.g. articles, book chapters, peer-reviewed conference proceedings, etc.) published by recognized publishers. Four (4) of these must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases. The remaining 2 publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer-reviewed conference proceedings, etc. published by recognized publishers; (viii) An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality of standing of the publisher; (ix) sustained research output: a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years; (x) scholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences; (xi) be lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles; (xii) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (xiii) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 1 of the these); (xiv) recognized as being of at least national research standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers; Editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; invitation as key note speaker at national and/or international conferences (required in at least 1 of these);and (xv) evidence of governance and social engagement.
The following will be added advantages: (i) sustained research activity: on-going internally and externally supported research; (ii) research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate; (iii) examiner/ moderator/assessor for undergraduate and/or postgraduate projects nationally; (iv) effective and experience in running a programme/course, etc.
The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, ISBNs (for books, book chapters and conference proceedings), dates of publications, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors if any and number of pages. The works should be categorized into books, book chapters, refereed journals, non-refereed works and consultancies and practical media projects.
Lecturer
Candidates should have: (i) a Doctorate in Physiotherapy or related field; (ii) a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy (specialisation); (iii) Bachelor of Physiotherapy or equivalent; (iv) registered/registrable with Botswana Health Professions Council; (v) demonstrable experience in curriculum development; (vi) show evidence of engagement in research. Evidence of governance and social engagement, as well as teaching experience at a university or comparable institution will be added advantages.
NB In special circumstances (i) a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy (specialisation); (ii) Bachelor of Physiotherapy (or equivalent) of at least 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 or equivalent; (iii) registered/registrable with Botswana Health Professions Council may be considered.
