SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER-EMERGENCY MEDICINE

FACULTY OF MEDICINE

DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE

VACANCY NO: FM/EM 2/2020, SENIOR LECTURER OR LECTURER
 

Duties: The successful candidates will; (i) teach undergraduate medical students and postgraduate residents; (ii) conduct research in his/her areas of expertise and supervise medical students’ research projects; (iii) provide service to the university, profession and community; (iv) provide clinical care in affiliated hospitals; and (v) carry out any other duties as assigned by the head of the department.

Minimum Requirements:

Senior Lecturer: (i) at least a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery or other recognized Medical doctor qualification (MD); (ii) a specialist qualification in Emergency Medicine with a minimum of 3 years post-specialization experience in professional practice in Emergency Medicine; (iii) The qualification must be registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (iv) evidence of professional specialization in any field of medicine and evidence of active license to practice where appropriate; (v) 6 pieces of research products published by recognized publishers, 3 of which must be articles in refereed/ accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases; (iv) paper/poster presentation at national and/or international conferences, depending on the discipline; (vi) be lead and/ or last author in at least  (2 of 3) refereed journal publications; (vii) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (viii) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 1 of the these); (ix) recognized as being of at least national research or effective clinical professional standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers, Editorial board member of at least national publisher in a relevant field, invitation as keynote speaker at national and international conferences/symposia. (Required in at least 1 of these); (x) active maintenance of a license to practice issued by the relevant professional licensing authority; successful supervision/co-supervision of research projects/ Post-doctoral/clinical research fellow supervision; (xi) evidence of social engagement and governance; (xii) Sustained professional research output ; a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years or 2 new CPW every 6 years or since last promotion shall constitute sustained research output; (xiii) Paper/poster/creative professional presentation at national and/or regional conferences; (xiv) Successful supervision/co-supervision of research projects/post-doctoral/clinical research.  The following will be added advantages: (i) sustained research activity; on-going internally and externally-funded research activity; (ii) research/clinical effectiveness awards and other forms research recognition; (iii) examiner for undergraduate and/ or postgraduate projects nationally.

Lecturer: (i) at least a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery or other recognized Medical doctor qualification (MD); (ii) a specialist qualification in Emergency Medicine; (iii) The qualification must be registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (iv) Evidence of governance and social engagement; (v) experience of teaching at a university or comparable institution will be an added advantage

Attributes and skills required; (i) Excellent communication and organizational skills; (ii) Strong academic leadership skills and sympathy for the values and culture of the University; (iii) Good management, human relations and sound analytical and coordinating skills.
