SENIOR LECTURER IN STRUCTURES (3-YEAR CONTRACT)

DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

VACANCY NO:  IRC 2232 (1 Position - Citizen Only)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates (Citizens Only) for the post of Senior Lecturer in Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering.

Duties: The successful candidate is expected to (i) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in structural engineering; (ii) supervise students’ research/design undergraduate projects and dissertations/theses at graduate level in structural engineering and associated construction materials; (iii) conduct research in the area of expertise; (iv) capable of fostering research collaborations within and outside the University; (v) provide service to the university, the profession and the community; and (vi) carry out any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

REQUIREMENTS: Senior Lecturer: Candidates should have: (i) a PhD degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, (ii) a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering; and (iii) a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from recognized Universities;  (iv) at least 3 years of teaching and research supervision experience in core structural engineering areas at undergraduate and graduate levels at any University or comparable institution; (iv) be a registered professional engineer or eligible for registration with the Engineering Registration Board (ERB); (v) a sustained record of research output of good impacts with at least six (6) publications, four (4) of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognised indexing databases (ISI Web of Science and Scopus). The remaining two publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings etc published by recognised publishers; (vi) be the first/lead author in at least half of the required journal publications, which must be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (vii) scholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences; and (vii) evidence service delivery in governance and social engagements as well as academic leadership.

Applicants should clearly state their areas of teaching and research experience. The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications: clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers, name(s) of co-authors (if any) and number of pages. The publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, chapters in books, refereed and non-refereed journals, consultancies etc. The CV should also have a detailed list of courses taught and the levels for which they were taught.
