The successful candidate will be based at Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital, Lobatse
Duties: the successful applicant will: (i) teach both undergraduate and graduate Psychiatry courses; (ii) engage in teaching clinical Psychiatry at Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital, Princess Marina and other specified areas; (iii) conduct research in his/her areas of expertise; (iv) provide service to the university, profession and community; (v) undertake the following duties; research supervision, research grant writing and resource mobilization, contribute towards departmental strategic plan development, and create relevant industry links for competency-based learning of the MMed residents, nationally and/or internationally; (vi) carry out any other duties assigned by the head of the department.
Requirements: the successful applicant should have: (i) a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, MBChB or MD degree) from a recognized institution; (iii) a formal degree qualification as a specialist in Psychiatry; (iv) registered with or registrable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (v) at least 3 years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; or 1 year of sustained mentorship/practice related training which would be considered as an alternative; (vi) at least 6 pieces of research products, 3 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals indexed in internationally recognized indexing databases; (vii) sustained research output e.g. a minimum of 1 peer-reviewed publication per year or new clinical excellence output every 2 years in 6 years or since last appointment; (viii) sustained research activity (ongoing internally and externally funded research projects). In addition, the candidate should be first and/or last author in at least 2 refereed journal articles or book chapters. The publications must be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals, and should have some research impact, including but not limited to citations (excluding self-citations), the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, clinical effectiveness, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions, etc.; they should be recognised as being of at least national research or effective clinical professional standing. There should be evidence of governance, professional and community engagement.
Added advantage: a demonstration of effective academic leadership.
The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of the publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorised into: books, book chapters, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, etc.
