Applications are invited for the position of Senior Lecturer In Project Management in the Department of Civil Engineering. The Department of Civil Engineering offers two graduate programmes in project management namely a Master of Science in Project Management (MPM) and a PhD in Project Management. It is looking for a senior academic to complement its teaching team to develop and deliver the two programmes into reputable academic and professional qualifications in Botswana and beyond.
Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach taught courses in the MPM programme which include Project Planning, Project Environment Analysis, Project Quality, Health and Safety Management, Project Impact Assessment, Monitoring & Evaluation; Project Resources Procurement & Administration, Project Finance, Cost Estimation & Control, Project Risk Analysis, Project Leadership & Conflict Management Strategy & Project Legal Environment (ii) supervise research leading to a MPM dissertation and a PhD thesis; (iii) initiate, promote and participate in research activities in project management; (iv) provide academic leadership and act as a mentor to junior academic staff; (vi) raise/ solicit research funds from funding agencies within and outside the country; (vii) develop collaborative relationships with other colleagues in academia and industry within and outside the country; (viii) participate in all academic and professional activities of the department; and (ix) carry out any other academic and administrative responsibilities as and when assigned by the Head of Department.
Requirements: Candidates should have (i) a bachelor’s degree obtained from a recognized university; (ii) a Master’s Degree in Project Management from a recognized university; (iii) a PhD in Project Management, or cognitive degree, from a recognized university(iv) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least six (6) pieces of research products published by recognized publishers, four (4) of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases. The remaining two (2) publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings etc. published by recognized publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of four (4) articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; (v) sustained research output: a minimum of one(1) peer reviewed publication every two(2) years; (vi) scholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences; (vii) be lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles; (viii) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (ix) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 1 of the these); (x) recognized as being of at least national research standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers; Editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; invitation as key note speaker at national and/or international conferences (required in at least 1 of the these); (xi) registered or eligible for registration with Botswana Qualifications Authority as an Assessor/Moderator (xii) evidence of governance and social engagement. Research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate will be an added advantage.
The curriculum vitae (CV) should indicate the courses that the applicant is capable of teaching. It should also contain a detailed list of publications: clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers, name(s) of co-authors if any and the page numbers. The publications should be categorized as: books, monographs, chapters in books, refereed and non-refereed journals, consultancies etc. The CV should also have a detailed list of courses taught and the levels (undergraduate or graduate) for which they were taught.
