SENIOR LECTURER IN PAEDIATRICS AND ADOLESCENT HEALTH

VACANCY NO. FM/PAH 1/2020

Duties: The successful candidates will: (i) teach undergraduate medical students and postgraduate students; (ii) conduct research and/or creative professional works in his/her areas of expertise and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students’ research projects (iii) provide clinical care in affiliated hospitals; and (iv) carry out any other duties as assigned by the head of the department.

Requirements: Candidates should have: (i) at least a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery or other recognized Medical doctor qualification (MD); (ii) a specialist qualification in General Paediatrics or Paediatric Sub-Specialty; (iii) the qualification must be registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (iv) evidence of governance and social engagement; (v) minimum of 6 pieces of research products (e.g. articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings) published by recognized publishers, 3 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases; (vi) paper/poster presentation at national and/or international conferences, depending on the discipline; (vii) be lead and /or last author in at least (2 of 3) refereed journal publications; (viii) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (ix) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed in texts in other institutions etc (required in at least 1 of these); (x) recognized as being of at least national research or effective clinical professional standing (e.g reviewer for refereed/ accredited national and regional publishers, editorial board member of at least national publisher in a relevant field, invitation as keynote speaker at national and international conferences/symposia (required in at least 1 of these); (xi) active maintenance of a licence to practice issued by a the relevant professional licensing authority; successful supervision/co-supervision of research projects/post-doctoral/clinical research fellow supervision; (xii) sustained professional research output; a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publications every 2 years or 2 new Creative Professional Work every 6 years or since last promotion shall constitute sustained research output. The following will be added advantages: (i) sustained research activity; on-going internally and externally-funded research activity; (ii) research/clinical effectiveness awards and other forms research recognition; (iii) examiner for undergraduate and/or postgraduate projects nationally.

Attributes and skills required (i) Excellent communication and organizational skills: (ii) Strong academic leadership skills and sympathy for the values and culture of the University (iii) Good management, human relations and sound analytical and coordinating skills.

The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc.
