Duties: The successful candidates will: (i) teach undergraduate medical students and postgraduate students; (ii) conduct research and/or creative professional works in his/her areas of expertise and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students’ research projects; (iii) provide service to the university, profession and community; (iv) provide clinical care in affiliated hospitals; and (v) carry out any other duties as assigned by the head of the department.
Requirements: Applicants should possess; (i) at least a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery or other recognized Medical doctor qualification (MD) (ii) a specialist qualification in General Paediatrics or Paediatric Sub-Specialty (iii) The qualification must be registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (iv) Evidence of governance and social engagement; (v) experience of teaching at a university or comparable institution will be an added advantage, (vi) minimum of 6 pieces of research products (Articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings) published by recognized publishers, 3 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases; (vii) paper/poster presentation at national and/or international conferences, depending on the discipline; (viii) be lead and /or last author in at least (2 of 3) refereed journal publications; (ix) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (x) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed in texts in other institutions etc (required in at least 1 of these); (xi) recognized as being of at least national research or effective clinical professional standing (e.g reviewer for refereed/ accredited national and regional publishers, editorial board member of at least national publisher in a relevant field, invitation as keynote speaker at national and international conferences/symposia (required in at least 1 of these); (xii) active maintenance of a licence to practice issued by a relevant professional licensing authority; successful supervision/co-supervision of research projects/post-doctoral/clinical research fellow supervision; (xiii) sustained professional research output; a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publications every 2 years or 2 new Creative Professional Work every 6 years or since last promotion shall constitute sustained research output;
Attributes and skills required (i) Excellent communication and organizational skills (ii) Strong academic leadership skills and sympathy for the values and culture of the University (iii) Good management, human relations and sound analytical and coordinating skills.
The following will be added advantages: (i) sustained research activity; on-going internally and externally-funded research activity; (ii) research/clinical effectiveness awards and other forms research recognition; (iii) supervisor of undergraduate and/ or postgraduate scholarly projects.
