SENIOR LECTURER IN ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY

FACULTY OF MEDICINE

DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY

SENIOR LECTURER, ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY              VACANCY NO:  FM/PAT 2/2020

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach undergraduate and graduate students; (ii) conduct research; (iii) provide diagnostic support in affiliated hospital laboratories.

Requirements: The candidate must have: (i) a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS or MBChB) or MD degree; (ii) a formal degree qualification as a specialist in Anatomic Pathology; (iii) the qualification must be registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (iv) evidence of professional specialization in Anatomic Pathology and evidence of active license to practice where appropriate; (v) minimum of 6 pieces of research products (Articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings) published by recognised publishers, 3 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognised indexing databases; (vi) paper/poster presentation at national and/or international conferences, depending on the discipline; (vii) be lead and /or last author in at least (2 of 3) refereed journal publications; (viii) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (ix) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed in texts in other institutions etc (required in at least 1 of these); (x) recognized as being of at least national research or effective clinical professional standing (e.g reviewer for refereed/ accredited national and regional publishers, editorial board member of at least national publisher in a relevant field, invitation as keynote speaker at national and international conferences/symposia (required in at least 1 of these); (xi) active maintenance of a license to practice issued by a the relevant professional licensing authority; (xii) evidence of governance and social engagement; (xiii) sustained professional research output; a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publications every 2 years or 2 new CPW every 6 years or since last promotion shall constitute sustained research output; (xiv) paper/poster/creative professional presentation at national and/or regional conferences. The following will be added advantages: (i) sustained research activity, ongoing internally and externally- funded research activity; (ii) research/clinical effectiveness awards and other forms research recognition; (iii) examiner for undergraduate and /or postgraduate projects nationally.

Attributes and skills required: (1) Excellent communication and organizational skills; (2) Strong academic leadership skills and sympathy for the values and culture of the University; (3) Good management, human relations, sound analytical and coordinating skills.
