SENIOR LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

FACULTY OF SCIENCE

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

VACANCY NO: IRC 1237

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to (i) deputize for Chief Technician when required; (ii) manage laboratories daily e.g. do preparations for laboratory practicals, delegation of duties, supervision and training of subordinate staff, the senior technician will  oversee the smooth running of laboratories; (iii) act as  a Safety Officer for the Department and report to the Chief Technician; (iv) maintain high productivity in the laboratories; (v) demonstrate, where appropriately competent, the use of laboratory equipment and experiment techniques to students; (vi) do stocktaking of laboratory supplies and advises in the purchase of the same.  

Requirements: A minimum of a Higher Diploma or Degree in Chemistry or related field, PLUS at least two (2) years post qualification relevant experience.

OR at least three (3) years of service at the level of Technician, excluding the period of full-time study and a record of outstanding service.

Knowledge and experience in the operation of scientific laboratory equipment will be an added advantage.
